How do we create the Taste and Tenderness

Get back to the basics with Willow Pond Farm Natural Beef. Our consistently tender beef results from a special production protocol that prohibits the use of artificial growth hormones or performance-enhancing antibiotics. The cattle come directly from our farm located in the Musquodoboit Valley,  just one hour from downtown Halifax.   All animals  are grass and grain-finished on a diet that boosts the good fats and is high in Vitamin E.

This wholesome, richly flavored beef takes you back 40 years, before the widespread use of growth hormones and steroids, before industry domination by big meatpackers buying low quality, cheap beef from overseas and before the evolution of a global sourcing and distribution system that moves food thousands of miles from where it is grown. Drop in and visit our farm, we would love to show you around.

ALL NATURAL - All natural means that our cattle never receive growth hormones or antibiotics added to the feed. Our cattle are fed all natural grains and hays. Our cattle are grazing on land free of bio-solids. The customer is guaranteed beef that is safe and chemical free.

DRY AGING – Promotes tenderness and flavor. The proof is in the rich flavor and tenderness of our dry aged beef. Large scale commercial meat packers can’t compare because they operate at such a volume without available meat locker space for the aging process — their meat never reaches the potential of flavor and tenderness of our beef. Dry--aged beef is usually only available at the finest restaurants in the big cities accompanied by a big city price.

Our cattle are hung for at least two weeks before we sell them

YEARLING BEEF - We focus on quality of tenderness and taste by processing our cattle at a younger age and lighter weights. The commercial market demands heavier carcass weights to satisfy the packer plants, quality is compromised for quantity. Our focus is on producing a consistent quality product every time. We market the animals at approximately 1 year of age weighing approximatelty 1100 lbs

Pasture Raised & Corn Fed

Our Cattle are born and remain with the mother growing big and strong on the mother's milk before eating a diet of barley, hay and silage. We go to the extra expense of feeding barley to our cattle so that our customers eat beef with high lean and marbling that only barley feeding and all natural weight gain can produce.

Our customers all love the taste and tenderness of the meat.
